Ah, here we are outside Edinburgh Castle, preparing for our visit! I'll bet you can't tell from the photo that we are half-frozen already. But I guess you can tell it's raining (hello, tartan umbrella!).
Not sure I heart rain, exactly, but I don't necessarily mind it, except when the wind is blowing fiercely and the temperature is hovering around freezing.
The Husband had to stand in line--for a very long time--to buy our tickets. He got bored and took this photo.
This is outside the military museum, which is on the castle grounds. It's pretty cool. It's one of the first things we visited, and The Girl didn't want to leave (note: indoors, with heating).
Outside the museum, you can see a royal dog cemetery, some of the castle wall, and a nice view of Edinburgh.
Imagine firing this thing!
After several bone-chilling hours spent seeing a number of things we didn't photograph, due in part to the weather conditions (did I mention it was cold?), we're leaving the Castle. Despite the chill, it was all quite impressive.

It looks beautiful! But cold. Very very cold.
Oh let me tell you if you lived in Rainy Scotland 24/7 you'd start hating the rain - its a nuisance when you can't take photos too. Good your enjoying your time here though,
Hello! I see you stayed not far from my dad's church! I loved your photos - we were there at the end of Dec and I went on the big wheel! Thanks for sharing your lovely New Year holiday.
How great is it that you can travel with your family to all these spectacular places...I have always wanted to go to Scotland...my grandma is from Edinburgh. It is on my list...looks so fun!
I have always wanted to go to Edinburgh. I didn't make it there on my trip to europe. Next time I hope :)
It all looks beautiful. I especially love the shot where you can see the city. This makes me want to return to Edinburgh!
Thank you all for the comments!
Shaheen, I totally understand how the rain would get very tiresome!
Floss, you were brave, going on the big wheel! Cool that we were close to your dad's church!
